4.5 - เรื่องของชายรับใช้ที่อ่านก็มีกลิ่นความเศร้าหม่นๆผสมอยู่ตั้งแต่ตอนแรกๆเลย การเก็บงำความรู้สึก(ที่ลึกซึ้งยิ่งกว่านิยายญี่ปุ่นสมัยนี้บางเล่มเสียอีก) กับการนิยามคำว่า 'ศักดิ์ศรี' ตามแบบคนอังกฤษนี่มันดูยิ่งใหญ่เสียเหลือเกิน มีจุดที่เราไม่เห็นด้วยกับโครงเรื่องบางตอน แต่นั่นเพียงเล็กน้อยและไม่ใช่ความผิดของคนเขียน 'งดงามและเศร้า' คงเป็นคำที่นิยามเล่มนี้ได้ ทำให้สงสัยว่า Never Let Me Go ที่เราเฉยๆเพราะสำนวนแปลไทยหรือเปล่า

I'd seen the film of this some time ago and enjoyed it. However, the book is somewhat different in that the main character, Stevens, is almost entirely narrating the story with only small excerpts where scenes are "played out" and so there is little dialogue. I don't often get on with books of this nature especially when the narrator doesn't engage me at all. I found it all quite dull and gave up. ...more

This one really gets into thr British psyche and how important class is for this nation. The specifictarget is service people (i.e. butlers and maids, not military) during the period betweeen the two world wars
