Still entertaining, but REALLY needed some strong editing - there are entire extraneous passages that did not need to be there, and some downright offensive stereotypes - I could have done w/o the author's rant on short men, for example. ...more

Third of the Outlander series regarding 18thC warrior, Jamie and his time-travelling wife, Claire. There was a lot packed into this one which meant some of the events were over too quickly and therefore less credible. Still an entertaining holiday read though.

While I still enjoyed this book a lot, it started getting really far fetched for me in this one. Not that the other two were 100% believable but they seemed to have more of a grounding in reality than this one. I also could absolutely not wait for the reunion between Jamie and Claire and I wasn't let down at all even if it did occur in an unlikely place. Love that I get to keep reading about Jamie & Claire. The constant barrage of trouble seemed a teensy bit much in this book - but I'm so in love with Jamie & Claire it doesn't matter. I want to keep reading and find out what happens. Every.page. Dragonfly in Amber is still my favorite so far. ...more

Gabaldon had me with her first two installments, but this one just never came together for me - way too many repetitive physical descriptions of main characters and their assorted wounds/injuries, plotlines introduced and dropped for hundreds of pages, and continued returns to tropes covered exhaustively in previous installments. Basically, it feels like an overlong retread that doesn't contribute very much new to the characters - I spent pretty much the entire book wishing Gabaldon had pursued ...more
