Weirdly this book is one of the best evolution books I've read. The compelling sport story combines with the science to address the philosophical question of what it actually means to be human, but in such a subtle way that you never even realize that is the path you are running down until you arrive at the end. ...more

Having been a runner for only a few years I am always impressed and astounded by the ultra runner community.

I was looking for inspiration and a better understanding into the mindset that comes with running long distances. I love the idea and culture of running that is pure joy. If it is work, then running is not worth it.

But I had some issues with how Ann Trason was portrayed in the book, she was passionate and low-key per the author and at the same time there seemed to be some assumptions made ...more
