An interesting glimpse into Iranian culture and what it means to be a woman in modern Iran. (Reminds me I need to pick up Reading Lolita in Tehran again.) Tamila is a 27-year-old, college-educated Iranian woman who travels to the US on a 3 month Visa to stay with her sister and brother-in-law. This was a nice and quick read. It's about a young woman named Tamil who comes go America to get married so she can stay in America . While making arrangements to get married she falls in love with an American man named Ike.
I find it interesting that even though Tami comes to America for the freedom there are still some restrictions. So she wasn't really free. I though Maryam was really annoying and bossy in the beginning but my mind changed at the end of the book. And finally thought Masoud wa ...more

I so enjoyed this well-written book of a young Iranian girl who comes to America and has three months in which to find a husband so she can remain in America. She surrounds herself with a wonderful group of eclectic friends who she meets in an ELS class. Each of the friends is, in one way or another flawed, and through her friends she is able to overcome the issues of her upbringing in Iran.
