I have re-read 1984 about every five or six years. This year I re-read it because my brother is in the process of revising the entire book into something like 2084 with Donald Trump replacing Big Brother and Trumpspeak replacing Newspeak.

If you're at all interested in politics, science, philosophy, advertising, sociology, or almost any other human discipline, 1984 is an important book.
Of course, everyone knows this, and much of the major strokes of the storyline, but I found the real plot to be nuanced and eerily relevant. I couldn't help thinking about the upcoming election, and that the warnings found in 1984 still ring true for today.
