I really wanted to love this book, and did love parts of it... but I did find myself skimming a lot. Perhaps, more for the reader who reads for the beauty of language, and not for story?
Whenever I can travel via the pages of a book I feel that the book is well-written. I've been to Tuscany & this book brought back all of my fond memories of a region that I'd love to return to. Her unique experience of living in a foreign country (which I can relate to) was underlined by her character development. In some respects it was reminiscent of the movie, The Money Pit, but it all worked out in the end. I would recommend this book to anyone traveling (or wanting to travel to) Italy ... I

I was disappointed by this book. It got boring after a while. Maybe if you are interested in the details of renovating a house in Tuscany it would be more interesting. I think it would have made a good essay,too long for the information presented.
Initally enjoyed the detailed descriptions of Tuscany, their trials and excitement in restoring their home. However, by the last third of the book, the lengthy detail was hard to read.
A feast for the senses!
