A novel quite hard to fit it into patterns. It left me with a big question: what was the thing that Ondaatje tried to demonstrate by writing it? The story is interesting and well told. I asked myself: does it lack conflict? No, but it has several of them, apparently minor ones. But after careful examination, all these conflicts seem to match one major human condition.
