What Members Thought
Despite the three stars I loved this little book and the wisdom waiting inside. I loved the exquisitely beautiful way it explains and describes Islam. I didn't find the writing lyrical - actually rather simplistic and predictable. If you like Paulo Cohelo (which I don't) - this will be an easy 4 star for you. It holds its own with the Alchemist. Not my favorite Elif Shafak's novel.
I didn't enjoy anything about Shams or his rules. And I was not sure about his relationship with Rumi. Were they lovers or good friends?
And why did Shams treat his wife that way?
Did we ever get any explanation for that?
And Ella falling in love with Aziz over a few Emails didn't make any sense.
So, in a nutshell, no not for me.
