Just when you think that every book about the Viet Nam war has been written, here comes a worthy contribution. By first time novelist Tatjana Soli, this story is from the perspective of a female photojournalist. The writing was lush and evocative. She does a terrific job of telling the story of the horrors or war through the lens of the people who are there as observers, covering the war. And then following how the war transforms and holds them in its clutches. Beautiful.

The Vietnam war is depicted through journalists' eyes. The author gives a wonderful understanding of how soldiers and journalists become 'addicted' to war and immune to tragedy and atrocities. That is the only way they can survive war and its consequences. A wonderful book that gives a deep understanding of the war, the Vietnamese people and how they won the war. Highly recommended. ...more
