This book grabs you by the throat and won't let go. It's brutal at times, so be warned. It reads extremely fast, and you'll learn a lot about Stalinist Russia (but keep in mind that part comes from a history dolt). I enjoyed it, but not sure I'll continue with the series due to the (at times) graphic violence. ...more

A fast paced a murder mystery/political thriller set in communistic times (end of Stalin era). I couldn't put this one down - had to finish it.
It is well written and has a great plot and characters.
It is quite tense as our hero chases down a serial killer (based on real-life case of Andrei Chikatilo), while evading the MGB.

I really enjoyed this book. I loved how everything was tied together, and while I knew that there would be a twist coming near the end, I didn't figure it out until right as it was happening. WOW! I'm looking forward to starting the second Leo Demidov book. ...more

Very good, couldn't put it down, devoured in almost an entire day, just my kind of thing (soviet, commie stuff)... Didn't know till I read the afterword that it was based on a real serial killer. Hmmm. ...more
