What Members Thought

This book involves two characters who make India's complex nature comprehensible. The life of the privileged vs. the life of the powerless. Empathy and compassion are evoked by the two strong women characters, and each has to make a choice which will affect their relationship forever. Those characters are well developed and truly memorable.

Even though I saw where the plot was headed early in the novel, I still very much enjoyed it.
The writing is beautiful, and the story heartbreaking. If you want to escape your "First world"
problems for a while, this is the book to immerse yourself in. The hardships of being an uneducated woman
in a third world country, and in the lowest of the caste system, are so clearly described here.
