Really digestible history of thirteenth century western Europe (mostly England and France, with a little Italy and Germany thrown in). Goldstone's Bibliographic Note at the end put more books on my to-read list. Goldstone also looked up what the victims of the Crusades thought about these pesky Europeans not minding their own business, making her story more well-rounded than some historians who ignore everything about non-Europeans.
