Very well done, especially considering the constraints of the historical record about the lost dauphin - Bayard creates an engaging story while not getting too far afield of what's known. Vidocq is compelling from the beginning, and Carpentier's growth as a character through the novel's events is expertly done. A solid choice for historical fiction fans.
