2.5 stars. This book just wasn't for me. There were aspects I really enjoyed, like the daemons and some of the magic. But it got weirder and weirder as it went on, and by the end, I was wondering what kinda drugs Pullman was smoking.
I also don't recommend this for young kids or sensitive people of any age.
I'm glad I pressed through and finished it, but I won't be continuing on with the series. ...more

A fun read for the most part. Would have given it 3 stars except for the disappointingly weak ending. I kept thinking "that's the payoff?!" So much for dust. Still plan to read the next couple of books as I am told they are really one very long story and things come together at the end.... I hope....

This is pretty far from the normal books I read but I loved it! It’s one that we have several copies of for donations so I gave it a try. The simple sense of right and wrong was really comforting. I don’t think it would work for any of my students because of all the invented vocabulary but I did enjoy it.
