I received this for Xmas from my lovely Irish mum. Our ancestors were from Ireland and Scotland, amongst other places, and so I’ve always been interested in the culture and history of Ireland. I felt drawn to this book and the storyteller as a focal point, but (and I realize I am in the minority), I completely disliked this book. I read it shortly after other Irish novels and I felt ripped off. It felt fake and pretentious, like it was taking the reader for a ride. It was a slow read and boring

I'm not sure what to say about this book. It is well-written, well-researched, and has a great flavor of Ireland all about it. However, most of the storyteller's stories did not captivate me, although some did. And the broader story of Ronan didn't really make sense to me until the very end. Although, to Delaney's credit, it does all come together at the end, there is a bit of a slog to get there. So: mixed but overall positive review.
