I usually avoid short stories however I had heard so much about this book that I decided to read it. It is well written and keeps the reader engaged for most of the time but there are times when it gets boring. The stories seemed predicable probably because those of us living in Pakistan have heard stories (of people we know or know of)like this before. I think people with less knowledge of culture of Pakistan may enjoy it more; it gives a very realistic and unique perspective of the rural areas

This book is a collection of short stories set mostly in Pakistan. I found them to be mostly just average. The book was well written, but not so well written that I could get past the fact that the stories and characters were dull. A lot of reviewers have compared this author's style to that of Jhumpa Lahiri. I suppose it is in the sense that many of his stories were very similar to each other.
