So dark, so heartbreaking, so thought-provoking...I was so disturbed after reading this, and yet I was never once surprised by the storyline, or the inescapably sad truth that humans are capable of such cruelty. It parallels so many "unspeakable acts" that we hear about all the time, but the shock value of this novel isn't that they are children, but that their behavior is such that occurs among society, perhaps more often than we realize, or admit.
