Da habe ich wohl schon im Februar mein Highlight 2016 gelesen. Ich wüsste nicht, was dieses Buch so schnell übertreffen könnte.

It took me about 250 pages to get into this book, but about half way through it, something changed (in the book or my reading experience, I'm not sure which) and I couldn't stop reading. I even went back to reread the first section immediately after finishing the book. I may even reread the whole book. It's challenging, no doubt. But also one of the more interesting and thought-provoking novels I've read in a while.
It's clearly a novel for a very patient reader and a lover of literary puzzles. ...more

Well written fiction and well tied together. The author's use of language across the varied cultures added a lot to the story. Enjoyable, and likely memorable - will look forward to seeing if it sticks to the brain across time.

This review is not a fair review. I thought I was going to like it, love it, maybe, but I didn’t. And the reason I didn’t like it has nothing to do with the beautiful writing or the big themes or the fascinating characters in this book; it had all of that and more. It's a four-star book.
I blame myself. I forced myself to read this book this summer. I assigned it to myself for summer reading.
