The problem with a biography written in novel form is that I, as the reader, keep expecting something to happen. You know, for the book to have a main plot and for events described in the book to have a resolution. I had to keep reminding myself that these were true stories, and that they don't always get tied up in a neat little bow. The author lived with an Afghan family for 3 months and then wrote about their lives after the Taliban left. Sigh.. Not that much changed for women at home, men still ruled every aspect of their lives. While this bookseller was progressive in wanting his country to better itself and be educated, he ruled with an iron hand in his household and no one could cross him.
