I had high expectations of this book but it was only so-so for me. It was easy to see how the story was going to go as there are plenty of hints along the way which Gwennie doesn't understand but an adult reader does. Maybe the author intended this but I would have preferred more twists in the tale.

I LOVED this novel. It sucked me in on the first page and I couldn't stop reading it. It is the story of a young girl in a small Welsh village who has problems with her family and with the girl who is supposed to be her best friend. Secrets are revealed and gradually she gets to find out the whole story about why things are the way they are, and why people, especially her mother, treat her and her sister the way they do. The main character reminds me a lot of the girl in The Sweetness at the Bot
