I am glad I finally got around to reading this book (my first Murakami was 1Q84). The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle is very similar to 1Q84. In fact all of Murakami books are similar, which may annoy some folks, but I sort of feel like I am meeting old friends when I read Murakami. I think what stood out about this book was the inclusion of a character who was part of the Nomonhan Incident in Manchuria.
This is an amazing book that affects you at different levels. The lines between dreams and reality are blurred in this book. Must read for a knock out experience.
