I picked this up because I was curious to read fiction from Angola, and Agualusa's books are the most broadly available in English translation. The story takes place in the early 2000s, a few years after the end of Angola's civil war. It's narrated by a chameleon (who is meant to be a reincarnation of Jorge Luis Borges) who lurks on the ceilings of a house in Luanda where a lonely albino lives.
