Nicely rendered psychological mystery translated from Norwegian. It's a bit reminiscent of a mystery master like P.D. James -- Inspector Sejer is a bit of a loner in the manner of James' Adam Dagliesh. However, there's an unmistakably melancholic Norwegian quality to Sejer that I found intriguing, not to mention that Karin Fossum creates a wonderfully brooding atmosphere. Less dark that most Scandinavian crime fiction, and deftly crafted in the way that multiple crimes interweave in surprising ways.
