I am not 100% sure what I think of Hemingway. I don't think I like his characters all that much, in fact I find them irritating. I do like his descriptions, and that saves him for me.

And I re-read this in 2021. I first read this book in 2007. Oh, and now I have four cats (which I never thought possible in 2007) and one is named Hemingway . . .
I re-read in part because this book and three others (The Stranger, The Kindness of Women and The Winter of Our Discontent) were part of the inspiration for my wife's (J.A. Carter-Winward) 2021 Literary Novel of the Year for Indie Reader, Wade.

How do you review a book that has been hailed as brilliant and helping to change English literature by so many? First up, confess that I merely read it. I didn't take postgrad classes in it, or even understand what was going on in world literature at the time it was written....and it's not the best book I have read.
