Crime fiction doesn't get much less cosy than this. I'd been nervous about trying Nordic noir, thinking it would be too depressing - but, although this book is just as bleak and dark as I expected, I found it a compelling read.

“He knew at once it was a human bone, when he took it from the baby who was sitting on the floor chewing it.”

Emotionally charged with the darkness of despair and disappointment - intense in its view of families in crisis due to violence and loss. A searing tragedy that lingers in the mind long after the story is over.

Really liked this novel! It was not only interesting but it was quite a mystery. I thought it was well written (and tranlsated) as well!
