I was vacillating between laughter due to his and my privilege, and sadness as I was reminded that it's the same here.
The sequence could be more cohesive so that the end would have a stronger impact.

I picked this book up once and assumed within the first 25 pages or so that I would grow to really dislike and possibly despise the author and narrator, Mr. Troost. So I put it down and moved onto something else.
I picked it up again recently and decided to have another go at it, and I am glad I did. This book was quite funny, informative, scattershot, and captured the essence of expat mindframes quite well. Troost is no Bill Bryson, a name he's compared to quite frequently. However, he does have ...more
