This is a book that I put off reading for a very long time, and now I am wondering why I didn't pick it up sooner. Although in my opinion, it was somewhat difficult reading because of the subject matter, the story of the priest Kumalo and his family was intriguing. The story showed the many kinds of troubles that existed in South Africa in the mid-twentieth century, but put a human face on them so that the reader was touched and didn't just read it as an historical novel. ...more
