A very cheerful book about living in a gulag and how different things become normal. Yet it makes us question why this system became normal and how the main character can go peacefully to sleep at night.
Solzhenitsyn received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1970, and along with "The Gulag Archipelago", One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich was mentioned. "In One Day...", Solzhenitsyn gives his reading audience a taste of what life was like in the Gulag - the Soviet prison system, which was in effect a slave labor system.

For a classic, and a Nobel prize-winning one at that, this was remarkably easy to read. Quite bleak and eye-opening
