This book contains a novella and a short story, both dealing with the death of a loved one. Although I wouldn't say that Yoshimoto has a beautiful style, I do like her stories.

After completing this novella, I was reminded of the adage that great things come in small packages. A small novella but packed with load of emotion ranging from love, tragedy, grief, humor and much more. It seems odd to say that a book about grief and despair is charming, but this is. I think it's the youthful voice and the sparse prose, but Yoshimoto doesn't pull her punches for all that.

Not for me. None of the characters were relatable for me. I read the first 30 pages and skimmed the rest.
