Ann Patchett has a way to weave a spell while telling her story. This is the second of her books that I have read, State of Wonderbeing the first. I remember thinking that upon finishing that book I truly was in a state of wonder. After finishing[book:Bel Canto|5826, I am sure that this book can certainly be classified as 'beautiful singing.'

I wasn't sure how I felt about this book as I was reading it. The writing is very good but the story is slow, however I did not want to stop reading it.
In an unnamed country, guerrillas take hostages at a party for a wealthy executive. Beyond that event, most of the remainder of the story is a study in human behavior. I would not recommend this to someone looking for a thriller but highly recommend for those who favor literary fiction or stories about human behaviors. ...more
