This is my first foray into James Joyce. I can finally understand why he is deemed such a literary genius. For me, it isn't so much the story, though the story is fine enough (perhaps 3-4 stars worth), but the writing (a solid 6 out of 5 stars). Though told in the third person, I felt like a voyeur standing alongside the protagonist in his own head. Such lyrical, perfectly descriptive, and beautiful writing.

No doubt it is a really well written book. I probably would have enjoyed reading this in a literature class; as it is, I read it in the middle of summer. The descriptive passages were awesome but there wasn't enough of a plot to keep me interested.
