Another great episode in this epic series. It's true that I found some of the battle scenes a bit dull but the stories of Jamie and Claire's family were compelling and plenty of leads into the next book.

This book took me longer than usual because it had an alarming tendancy to put me to sleep while reading it. I don't like the Lord John bits, have never got into that series, and he is a key character in this one. Finally made it to the end, (and if you are wearying, plough on, the last 250 pages are actually better) and ...it just finishes. I wanted more Jamie & Claire and less William.

I think a more accurate rating would be the first half a three and the rest a four but since I just finished it and the last half was so climactic I'm sticking with four. The first part is mostly more slow because there's a LOT about William and John Grey and while I get that we need to care about William as a compelling character as the story moves forward, I think some of that we could have done without. Overall though I'm glad I read this at a time where I don't have to wait for the next one
