Everyone should read this book. My grandfather served in WWII on the European front and he would never speak about his experiences. This book is not his story, but it is ONE of the many important stories that we should not lose. I feel like the author did a fantastic job of explaining the culture and mindset of my grandparent's generation, and it was a blessing to read. This story about Louie Zamperini is unbelievable. No man or woman should have that many of his or her years stolen by something so destructive. While I find Louie's story of fortitude and faith inspiring, I also feel heartbroken by his struggles. We should only choose war after exhausting all of our other options. It should be a last resort. And, by God, we should have better support for our veterans and their families. That's my takeaway anyway. ...more

This one was one of the best books I've read in a long time. I always get annoyed when the author seems to be congratulating the main character the whole time, but Louie Zamperini deserves to be congratulated. I felt like I was learning about my grandfather and his experience in the war as I was reading and I couldn't put it down. ...more

Wow. Amazing the inner strength people have; the author did a great job telling the story. Reading this, I wonder how I can ever complain about the trivial things in life.
