Everyone should read this book. My grandfather served in WWII on the European front and he would never speak about his experiences. This book is not his story, but it is ONE of the many important stories that we should not lose. I feel like the author did a fantastic job of explaining the culture and mindset of my grandparent's generation, and it was a blessing to read. Soon there will not be many of these first-hand accounts left and this is an excellent, high-quality, and easy-to-read part of

This story about Louie Zamperini is unbelievable. No man or woman should have that many of his or her years stolen by something so destructive. While I find Louie's story of fortitude and faith inspiring, I also feel heartbroken by his struggles. We should only choose war after exhausting all of our other options. It should be a last resort. And, by God, we should have better support for our veterans and their families. That's my takeaway anyway.

I couldn't put this down. It has the ring of authenticity, and if it is all true then Zamperini has had an amazing life, some of the time for all the wrong reasons. I have to admit to a childhood love of wartime escape stories, (of which this isn't one)and this book is also the story of a man whose spirit remained unbroken in the face of unspeakable cruelty at the hands of his captors, as well as obstacles that would have felled many of us.

I wanted to LOVE this book. I was enraptured with it on many levels; couldn't stop reading in fact. But the writing was all over the place. The characters were numerous but none were very developed. The tangents were many. The key points were shortchanged and the random details overly developed that it felt like a dead horse was being beaten.

I bought this book for my father, who is an avid reader, a few years ago for his birthday. HE LOVED IT! I was so happy, because he is a pretty picky reader. All the people I had talked to who had read this book also loved it, so I felt it was time to give it a shot. The first part of it, up to about 120 pages, I have to say, was pretty slow going. I found my mind wandering, and not so engaged in the storyline. This first part talked about the main character, Louis Zamperini, in his youth, which

I am simply one of the countless readers who feel all the richer for having read this book. “Unbroken” is a compelling, extraordinary account of endurance, courage, and tenacity that transcends the realms of imagination. Whether you are a fan of non-fiction and survival stories or not, this book is a must-read. Besides the dire, unspeakable, conditions that Louie Zamperini and thousand others had to suffer, it is the men’s sheer will to survive and their resourcefulness in the face of starvation
