What an interesting book! It is set in old China, and the plot revolves around two girls, Lily and Snow Flower, who become lao-tongs, which means best friends (although it means something even deeper than that) when they are age 7. The story follows the girls as they go through the rituals and stages of life, everything from their own foot-bindings through marriages, hardships, and even death of some of their family members.
