This book falls into the category of "unexpectedly unputdownable' a rather clunky phrase for a book that was an enjoyable read. The characters make it, the four main ones are seriously flawed but likeable, and blunder their way into their own solution to each other's problems. The translation only shows when there are mentions of Paris or other obvious clues, and although the ending was almost too tidy, it rounds the tale off perfectly.

Gavalda us a wonderful writer of life in the modern world. A bonus for me is that this beautiful story is set in Paris and I am very glad to be reading some French literature. The ending was not as strong as the body of the story but that only dampened it a little. An earlier reviewer labeled this work chick lit, and that tag never crossed my mind in association with this story. It is a much richer work of literature with many facets. Strangely compelling. Loved the clean, rapid-fire dialogue. Was a little annoyed by Camille's "deus ex machina" revelation at the end but otherwise a very pleasant read.
