What Members Thought

Oh this book, I found it quite unbearable to be honest. I have to say it was possibly one of the most boring and tedious things I have ever read. I know that calling something boring may often come across as a lazy critique, but I really don't think there is a more apt description to be had. The story is told from three different POVs, and although at first I found one of those perspectives more interesting than the others, eventually they all just meded into one big, fat ball of meh.

Based on the premise, three woman's lives which intersected at the start of WW2, this should have been a better book. But I found is melodramatic with lots of passages which were just badly written. I normally would stop reading a book if i found it so annoying, but I kept reading to see how it ended. It ended badly. Oh well - stick to the 100 page rule - if I do not enjoy it by 100 pages, give up.

The main character is Frankie, a reporter who is eager to tell Americans what is going on in Europe before America enters the war. Vivid descriptions of living through the bombings in London; riding the trains with hordes of people desparate to leave their homes in mainland Europe; and the hopelessness and death surrounding them.
