Engaging read; brought the women of the old testament to life. I started this book a few years ago based upon recommendations of friends and could not get into it. Tried again due to it being a SB Book group pick and just loved it!

Being named after an Old Testament Bible character, I am well versed with the stories of the male patriarchs found in Genesis. This re-telling of a very minor female character was powerful and fascinating! Anita Diamant is a strong writer that had clearly done her research and painted a vivid picture of the characters, the time, culture, landscape, etc. I was engrossed throughout.
I really liked it, but maybe should have read it in print instead of listening to an audio version, so I could keep better tack of the characters and their relations. This has been on my TBR list a long time and I had even loaned out my copy to others to read. The prose is lovely, but I can see why many see this as chick lit based on the bible. Still, recommend to others.
Although it took me over a month to finish it, I did enjoy it and was completely sucked into this retelling of the biblical story pf Dinah.
I found myself researching a number of facts and religious practices mentioned in the novel, which- to me at least- sign of a good, engaging novel.
