This was fun to read on a heavy-of-heart day. A delightful, spritzy graphic story of three 19-year-old girlfriends in Abidjan (Ivory Coast) in the 1970s. Great period detail, great sense of place, great illustrations. Snappy dialogue -- and I recommend reading the glossary of Abidjan colloquialisms at the end if lost. Aya wants to grow up and be a doctor but she is caught in a web of friends who are only interested in boys and do not take school seriously. Takes place in 1970's Ivory Coast, a time with no war or famine. I really enjoyed it. The artwork is bright and colorful and full of contrast. The ending is cool, with recipes and cultural information that I found valuable. Vol 1 of 6.
