So much more than a sweet little book of friendship and love stories...it’s an honest, interesting portrayal of post-WWII Europe.

Didn’t expect it to be epistolary. Once I got hooked (maybe 50 pgs in?), it flew by. Characters and relationships were sweet, and some fun and unexpected events (not so much twists) popped up. I was a little thrown in the middle because somehow from his first letter I expected Dawsey to be in his 60s. Oops. I looked up pictures of Guernsey and now I want to visit.

Follows a pretty classic formula in telling stories which is what I liked about it. It reads like a book written decades ago. Introduces you to actual events and places and literature within a well woven tale. No need to discuss how it breaks boundaries or checks off the latest literary trends. What’s not to love?

I thought that the letters format might have annoyed me but it was actually really funny and well written.
