Exquisite. If it still resonates in a few weeks, will up the rating. Crisp, clear prose (excellent translation); loca texture that is not in your face; beautiful characterisation of two co-wives, with a lovely tender ending that is not cloying.
Apparently this is the first novel from the CAR to be translated into English in half a century. I enjoyed it. It is sad when the wives become widowed but there are some laugh out loud moments. Took me back to my days in Cameroon, which is frequently referenced in this novel.
