Two boys. Reuven is an Orthodox Jew, and Danny is a Hasidic Jew. An intense baseball game leads to Danny hitting a ball directly at Reuven; Reuven's glasses break, and a piece of glass goes into his eye. The two boys become friends, despite their differences in belief and despite the differences in their fathers' parenting.

My immediate reaction: makes me want to love everybody. A marvelous book. Talks about the kind of friendship we all want to have (Reuven & Danny). I am envious of Danny's memory and extraordinary intelligence. I feel more enlightened about Judaism now. A fascinating culture and religion. The characters were amazingly constructed, such subtlety. Beautiful, beautiful.

Re-read of a book I remember reading and loving in high school. Found it helpful to have recently watched the movie-series "Unorthordox" to help me understand in more depth the Hasidic tradition.
