Galatea was brought to life here, with the constraints of her nature and circumstances. I cheered for her so loudly.

A very good short story -- Galatea is a singular character, with a distinctive voice and point of view, and Miller is such a good writer on so many levels. Well worth the read.
Short story. Galatea is a statue carved of ivory by Pygmalion. In Greek mythology, the statue is brought to life by the goddess Aphrodite, and Pygmalion and Galatea are united in marriage. Miller creates an incredible ending to the story. FAAFO!
This was a lot more disturbing than I anticipated. It's a good companion read to The Yellow Wallpaper, but in this one the heroine takes charge.

This is a strange but striking little book. It's like a really delicious meal when the portion is too small. I truly cannot wait for Madeline Miller to write more books. She writes in a way that absolutely no one else can. More more more.
