This is a beautiful and heartbreaking book. I think it will probably stay with me for a long time.
Nuri and Afra are ordinary working people, living an ordinary life in Aleppo. Nuri is a beekeeper and Afra is an artist. And then the Syrian war comes and they are caught in a nightmare. Their 7 year old son is killed by a bomb and Afra loses her sight. Eventually they have no choice but to flee for their lives, leaving everything they have ever known behind.
