I travelled to Malaysia some years ago myself so this book caught my interest as I love to read about people and local history written by local authors and not through a western lens. I ADORED this book, the way it brought early 20th century Ipoh to life and the particular Nyonya culture of Malaysia. The characters were so well-crafted and Chye Hoon a wonderfully strong heroine.

I just remembered to write a short review of this book because I've started the sequel now and I can't wait to return ...more
