As a fan of mystery, fantasy, and speculative fiction who grew up in the Middle East, I'm always up to check out genre books set there. (George Alec Effinger's cyberpunk Marid Audren trilogy is the standout I've come across so far.) This novella is a great introduction to a fully-realized steampunk 1912 Cairo, and Special Investigator Fatma el-Sha’arawi of the Ministry of Alchemy, Enchantments and Supernatural Entities.
