Wanted to give more stars, but I don't know why some of the parts of this book just didn't work too well for me. Maybe the writing style, too intricately woven sometimes, working in between metaphors and mythology that made me can't focus enough with the story.
The characters, although a bit unlikable, are very real, and the theme of Hawaiian indigenous community is very important in my opinion, it's not exposed enough. There are many specific local words without explanations though, th ...more

I really liked this magical realism novel. I've never read anything quite like it.
