"I'll get you, and you won't even know I'm doing it". What kind of mother says that to her daughter? While I was reading this, I wondered how someone could invent a family like this, then realised that it was a memoir. Aha! Perhaps she didn't. A mother with an undiagnosed psychiatric illness starving and abusing her husband, living in isolation in Canada, disowning and then pretending that her daughters didn't exist.

The author is a product of one of the most dysfunctional families I have ever read about and yet she seems to have coped with her situation. Would that there were more people like her in the world.
