Such a well written book about a horrific place. Elwood Curtis is the model grandson and student living during the Civil Rights movement. He's inspired by Martin Luther King, Jr's words but loses his freedom when a corrupt law enforcement system destroys his chance to move up in the world. Based on a real "reform" school in Florida, Nickel Boys isn't a comfortable read. It's disturbing. It's thought provoking. It's important. I was moved by this book and it will stick with me. ...more
