Mosley's great talent in his Easy Rawlins mysteries is how he gives his protagonist multiple voices and the ability to bend himself to the specific people he's interacting with, and this one's a particularly fine example as Easy's ability to slide in and out of different personas is crucial to his entanglement with the feds.
